At a press conference held by Sony they announced their next generation console the PlayStation 4 along with the new DualShock 4 controller. Sony reveled the system's tech specs, new controller and new games.
- Single-chip custom processor, with eight x86-64 AMD Jaguar CPU cores and 1.84 TFLOPS next-gen AMD Radeon based graphics engine
- 8GB GDDR5 memory
- Built-in hard drive
- 6x Blu-Ray and 8x DVD drive
- USB 3.0 and auxiliary ports
- Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 2.1
- HDMI, analog AV-out, and optical S/PDIF audio output
- DualShock 4 controller, with two-point capacitive touchpad, three-axis gyroscope, three-axis accelerometer, vibration, light bar with three color LEDs, mono speaker, micro USB port, stereo headset port, extension port, 1000 mAh battery
- PlayStation 4 Eye camera, with two 1280 x 800 cameras, f/2.0 fixed focus lenses, 85-degree field of view, 30cm minimum focusing distance, four-channel microphone array
Sony's lead system architect Mark Cerny stated that PS4 is being build with developers in mind by use PC architecture. The DualShock 4 controller as a touch pad similar to the PlayStation Vita. They will also be using the technology acquired with the buying of Gaikai to stream games to the PS Vita. With a new feature that allows a friend over the internet to take control and help with difficult sections of a game. It was also announced that the PS4 will be able to stream gameplay via ustream and the ability to integrate with social media. With a desktop quality GPU that can render thousands of items with physics.
The games look beautiful in High Definition graphics. Games that were announced were Killzone: Shadow fall, inFAMOUS: Second Son, Watch Dogs, Knack, Driveclub, The Witness, Deep Down (working title), Chris Metzen announced a port of Diablo 3, and Bungie's latest game DESTINY will be playable on the PlayStation 4.
