Geek I/O On #E32013: Microsoft Keynote

June 11, 2013

This year's Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) is a shaping up to a massive thing.  With the introduction of new consoles, it is up to each of the big names are really going to need to step up their game, to not only show off the new hardware, but also to bridge the gap between the older generation and the new.

First up, Microsoft.

 

 Xbox 360 System Redesign

     - The design of the system has became slimmer and more quiet. 

     - It is out today! If you do not have a current Xbox 360, there is no better time than now to get a brand new one.


World of Tanks heading to Xbox 360

- One of PC's hugest Free-to-play games is heading to Xbox 360 Live Arcade.

- Still free!

- No release date given.


Metal Gear Solid 5 will be landing on Xbox One!

- Hideo Kojima got on stage to announce that the hit series, Metal Gear Solid will be landing on Xbox One.

- In game footage was shown.

- Not an Xbox exclusive, but is coming to the system first.

Dead Rising 3 

     - Capcom announced Dead Rising 3 will be an Xbox One EXCLUSIVE

     - New Character: Nick Ramos (no word if Frank or Chuck will make appearances) 

     - Rising 2's crafting mechanic will be returning

     - SmartGlass integration will allow for tactical support.


Killer Instinct revival

 - Rare Games is reviving the critically acclaimed fighting series with an Xbox One exclusive.

Mirror's Edge 2 unveiled, not much information was released. Unsure if Xbox One exclusive

 

Battlefield 4 information was released, with the fan favorite Commander Mode from Battlefield 2 is returning! They also released a single-player trailer:

Star Wars: Battlefriend is announced, in partnership with Electronic Arts, and here's a trailer: 


The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

 

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a unique combination of a non-linear story and an open world – a fantasy RPG focused on player choice, tactical combat and a rich, living environment. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be the crowning achievement for the critically acclaimed game developer, CD Projekt RED, and the final episode of one of the best RPG trilogies. With a re-envisioned approach to the narrative, the game will be accessible to both newcomers and old time fans.

Forza Motorsport 5

The famed Xbox-exclusive racing franchise returns! They are bringing a new ghost driver AI called "Drive-atar", and using Xbox One's "always on" connection requirement creates a persistant world.

 Ryse: Son of Rome

One of many new Xbox One exclusive IPs were announced, this from the makers of Crysis (and the Crytek engine).  They did some gameplay footage:

 


Sunset Overdrive

Another Xbox One exclusive new IP is Sunset Overdrive, not much information was given, but here's a trailer:

The final exclusive IP we are going to discuss is the cinematic TitanFall, while still not much information was released, here's the trailer: 


Xbox One information! 

Here's the meat of the show! Xbox releases some big information about their next generation console, more of a game focused preview, as opposed to their media device-based press conference last month, and here is some big points: 

- Releases in November

- Integration with SmartGlass as you play. Players can now get up to date statistics of what they are playing. Tips, high scores, friend progress, etc.

- Game DVR: They used Killer Instinct as an example.  They played a match, went in, edited the video and posted it. 

- Twitch integration and partnership: Allowing live stream to twitch.tv of your games.

- Pre-order available now!
