Raul’s Pick
Game: Donkey Kong Country
Originally on: SNES
Year: 1994
Genre: Platformer
Notes: Old school platformer is pixel perfect jumps and trolling enemies placement. Also I HATE ICE LEVELS. Main characters Donkey and Diddy Kong. There are some difference between the two Kongs like Diddy and run faster and jump a bit higher, but Donkey can defect the larger enemies as well as do the ground slap to defeat enemies. Others include Funky Kong lets you jump in the barrel jet to travel between zones. Candy Kong for saving the game. Cranky Kong gives hints. You are also help out by some animals friends that you free from crates you find in the level and bones stages. Rambi the Rhino, Enguarde the Swordfish, Winky the frog, Squawks the Parrot, and Expresso the Ostrich. There are three games modes Single Player, Two Player Team, and two player contest. Graphically the game has not age very well from the early 90s. Using a pre-rendered background that make it sometime kinda hard to see what you can jump on. Audio on the had is great and set the mode for each new area. The layout of the game is reach the end of each stage in each zone and then fight the boss. Which for me the bosses at the end of the each stage has not been very difficult. You are lock to each zone until you reach Funky Kong to jump zones to save if you haven’t already gotten to Candy Kong. Donkey Kong Country does not make it easy for anyone used to auto saves or save anywhere.
